I have also noticed that when I lose rotation during heel side turns and when my hip becomes parallel with the edge of the board -- I feel as if I've hit a "wall" when trying to get lower. It's almost as if inclining straight back and doing a "potty squat" with shoulders/hips parallel to edge of the board have no difference and any further I just tip over.

Reading over this again... try bringing your rear hand toward your front knee thoughout the heelside turn (this is one of Cherry's drills).  That rotation is essential for angulation and getting your weight properly stacked.  Once you loose that tension in your obliques you're going to fold and loose your edge angle.  Moreover, your leading hand should be reaching up from the snow to keep your shoulders level.  I wouldn't try to "get lower"... it'll evenually just happen.

Ok I went snowboarding today and yesterday and feel like I'm making some progress on my heelside turns -- I have to keep telling myself to keep my hips square to the nose of the board at all times. If my hips start "sagging" and trailing behind, then everytime I bend my knees the board goes flat. But if I keep my hips square then bending my knees actually causes the edge angle to go up.

Will keep practicing for sure!
