Can you fit that cant piece under the  footbed instead so it won’t interfere with toes and heel lift pieces, you’ll have even better results imo. I used gorilla tape for testing before going permanent with glue.

improved my riding no questions

Looks great!  I double the thickness where the cant and lift overlap but yours looks cleaner.

This would look cleaner still!

I'm just slaying...

@wintervince Temporary mods are great when you're experimenting. Then when you know what suits for your body and that stance distance and binding angle then you can craft something more durable. If you subsequently change your binding angles by more than 10 degrees you're likely to benefit by re-experimenting.

For the angles softbooters ride, angles more across the board benefit from inward tilt/canting, while more positive angles are more likely to benefit from rear foot heel lift and front foot toe lift.

Have fun experimenting and finding stuff out about your riding!

The problem with the old Burton universal cant devices is that you are unable to separate canting from lifting.  I started using Anvil Brand draft horse hoof wedges under my rear binding and the results are amazing.  The only issue is fussing around with binding screws of different lengths to get a solid attachment.

I tried the footbed mods with great success -- definitely able to get those hips a bit more open on the heelside. Started with 6mm EVA foam attached to the footbeds with basic double-sided scotch tape, which held up just fine. The EVA foam is definitely much too soft causing the realized height delta to be closer to 3mm than the intended 6mm. This morning, I removed the EVA foam and replaced it with 1/4" rubber which is *so* much heavier than the foam, but should totally resist deformation. I used a bit more of the double-sided tape to try to cover as much of the surface of the rubber as I could. These are still easily removable but should stay put until I try to pull 'em. Will report back on their efficacy after I have a chance to ride them this week.

@parkcityguy where did you source the rubber from? I assume this was inside the binding.
When you say "hips more open" on the heel side, you mean the raise on the heel lets you turn your hip to be more perpendicular to the board, right?
I need to experiment with this on soft boots....

@mods - the colour scheme of the body text is same as background, could you adjust template?

@slaybells i got the rubber from amazon. it’s also available from gym flooring places.

yes, hips more open means hips perpendicular to board.

i ended up riding with the setup today and found that i needed one more adjustment. since my bindings are the rear-entry flows, i ended up needing to add a top layer of slippery glossy vinyl on top of the rubber so my boots don’t get stuck as i push into the binding. the adhesive vinyl was sourced from my daughter’s cricut crafting setup 🙂

the corduroy was a bit too soft today to have perfectly dialed heelsides…i was digging in and dragging and losing speed. nonetheless, i think i am happy at the moment with the footbed mods.

Just to be the contrarian…

I hate canting.  The over pronation just causes me problems.  I’ll never buy another binding with canting unless they offer a flat footbed as an option.

I had never tried any lift before being on the JJA prototypes with James’ bindings.  Although it actually felt kinda natural, I think I now have bursitis in my rear heel.

I like standing flat, with good arch support, especially when I’m shifting my weight over the nose or tail.

@board-doctor Now you have me thinking, as I defo have pronation issues (for which I have custom insoles).  However, with this level of canting (3 degrees?) it shouldn't change the top-down loading of your foot structure, right, from the perspective of your foot, if you have a wide stance, your leg is at an angle, so you are only just helping your hips and knees, not making your pronation "worse".  Right?

If your centre of mass is between your feet, the top-down loading should theoretically be better with the appropriate canting.  But for example, I finish toeside with my weight over my back toes (and that leg more straight) and transition to heelside with my weight over my front heel (with that leg more straight).

With hard boots you're obviously more locked in and I can see how all of this would probably be more important to get right.  On soft boots I feel like it's a bit more dynamic... and it definitely causes my problems.

Saw this interesting cant plate and binding design on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/snowboarding/s/gnxcB0wrRX
