I saw a post by @wildcherry on the Powerride boot stiffeners when he was listing a pair of  Driver X boots. I was wondering who has tried Poweride and any recommendations on particular models. I have seen them in several shops in Tokyo but the staff are not really carvers.

@kagurasnowsurfer I've used PowerRides.  They are definitely helpful to stiffen up the interface.  They're not as stiff as my custom stiffeners though, even when I stacked two pairs together.  That's why I sold them.

I found another company that makes boot stiffeners and I'm trying to get those in the store for next season.

So I bought a pair.  They definitely stiffen up worn out boots but my rear foot is getting crushed by the front of the stiffener.  I currently have 10mm pad to  lift the heel.  I might increase the pad thickness to see if it helps.

any tricks or suggestions?

@angry4nus When I package the Trenched Boot Stiffeners I include some pieces of EVA foam.  I couldn't find high quality stuff with the sticky back so I apply two sided tape to the foam before shipping.

So...  if it's digging into your toes you would apply the foam higher up the stiffener, maybe ending 1cm from the toe edge.  This will put more pressure up higher over the top of your foot and relieve the pressure on your toes.

Also, you will need a strap.  Without a strap near the top of your boot, the forward flexion will push that plastic stiffener right into your toes.  With the strap, there's less of that forward flexion and the stiffener remains in the same position relative to your foot, no toe pain.

I got new softboots and no longer need my PowerRide stiffeners.  Will sell for US$50 shipped in N. America.   Can probably do a bit better for Canadian destination, C$50 picked up in Ottawa.

Mine are Medium flex, Medium size.

@slabber You should hold on to those.  Your new boots will break in fast and you'll probably want to add stiffness later.  Plus, in the future too as your skills improve you'll likely want to up the forces and the stiffeners will help you do that.

Also...  Don't be competing with me on my own website!!!  Kidding, it's alright, this is a public forum, do what you like!  (For the record though, the Trenched Boot Stiffener is only $54 CAD brand new.)

I paid large for mine imported to Canada so just trying to recoup some money.

Your new Trenched stiffeners are definitely priced well.

@wild-cherry Do you have any plans on adding wings to the boot stiffeners for lateral support? I have the Powerride Medium flex with the wings and I like them. I'm not sure if it's necessary or even does anything lol but its a cool idea.

@slabber What boots did you go with? My ride insanos were so stiff the first few days but I eventually needed to put the stiffeners back in once they broke in.

Deeluxe Edge Pro.  I think they have a stiffener built into the tongue.  Was trying to find detail on that earlier today to no avail, but the tongue is very stiff.

My design already has some small wings built in.  I'm planning to test out Jasey's lateral boot stiffener soon and go from there.  I might like it a lot and then I'm going to need two new molds, one for regular and one for goofy.  (The lateral stiffener is meant for the front foot only.)

Overall though, I'm very happy with the stiffeners we produce.  Two in each boot (only on the best days) gives me plenty of rigidity and they're way more comfortable than what I was riding last season.

Deeluxe Edge Pro.  I think they have a stiffener built into the tongue.  Was trying to find detail on that earlier today to no avail, but the tongue is very stiff.

So, Deeluxe makes three types of tongues for their softboots.  The 'Freeride' tongue that comes on the Edge Pro boot has support for their proprietary 'Flex Booster' tongue stiffener accessory. "the Freeride Tongue sports a three-position pocket that can accommodate an optional Flex Booster. This enables you to personalize the flex of your boot and tailor it to be either symmetrical or asymmetrical."  The 'freestyle' and 'jib' tongues only allow for single position.

The Flex Booster tongue comes in three stiffnesses, 1K, 2K and 3K and three sizes : S  (21.5 - 24.5 cm), M  (25.0 - 27.5 cm), L  (28.0 - 30.5 cm )

Wasn't easy to find the Flex Booster in N.Am but I found a pair of the 3K in size S at a shop in SoCal and had them shipped to my sister living just outside of Santa Barbara.  US$20 plus $5 shipping and some tax.

I bought a pair of the Deeluxe Deemon L3, but haven’t found the flex boosters anywhere.  Where did you get them?

Baker Street Snow - call and talk to owner Cody or Chris.  They're not listed.

Catch is their shipping to Canada is US$40 and it's a US$20 item.  I messaged YYZ Canuck and Andrea said she could look into it and order some this March if preordered but would be for next November if you want to purchase this side of the border.

Bought the Trenched boot stiffeners with two pairs of couple straps. Very happy with them. They make my on soft-side Ride Lasso Pros Wides (I really needed the extra width) much stiffer.

Quick question: for folks with dual or even triple BOA's where do you place your straps? With my Lasso Pro Wides and I can only fit one set of straps per boot (between the two BOA knobs). It seems that their is not enough room above the BOAS.

Also, what is your SOP for tightening the boots? Do you crank the BOAS first, then crank the straps and then alternate?

The Ride boots have an instep BOA as well as an overall tightening BOA (which some people are not fond of due to the pressure wandering down to the toe box after flexing the boot). With my previous Burton Ion Wides, I used to pop open the speed laces after every run to relieve pressure on my feet on the lift and allow some heat vapor to release so that my toes did not get too sweaty and freeze up later in the day. I still do this with the BOAS though they are a bit faster to crank back up. All fine and dandy when I ride alone or with other snowboarders but not so good with my impatient ski buddies.
