@board-doctor One more thing. Sinse you are riding titanal and rubber custom board, should you want to part with the freecarve 6000 before next winter, I would very much be interested in purchasing it from you. Just throwing that out there. Cheers! Laurent Larocque
@flyguy I think you might be confusing me with James… though we do kinda look like brothers from another mother 😂 (I don’t have the flow bindings, and it’s not my site). Sadly for you, I do plan to hang onto the Freecarver. It’s just so unique and fun.
It’s relatively wide and best in softer snow, but being retired you probably don’t need to go out on the hard/icy days anyway. Keep Shred’n! (I certainly hope to be in another 20 years).

@board-doctor I think you are right. Sorry for the confusion. No problem for not selling, it just shows me that it is a pleasure to ride and I am probably making the correct choice.
Just curious though. Why does it not perform on icy conditions?
@flyguy My boots are only size 8, so the board has a lot of leverage on my feet. In order to really stack my weight over the edge it needs a lot of edge angle, which tightens the radius further. It’s really tiring on my ankles.
On softer snow it’s seriously fun, the board really wants to turn. In the late 90’s, shaped skis made it easier for skiers to turn and they started carving. Maybe a few people will pick up a 6000 and start their carving journey?

Posted by: @flyguyBeing a smaller hill I figure if I could find a board (like the freecarve 6000) that carves well without needing high speeds to get it turning.
Simply stated, 6m is too small for a carving board. You won't like it. It won't make closed turn shapes. I learned this the hard way when I bought a Prior Fissile split board which didn't even make satisfying turns in backcountry bottomless powder. If you're really psyched on Jones Snowboards, buy the 9000.
As far as bindings go, I have also learned that the Hybrid version of the NX2 Carbon is likely better than the Fusion for fit, especially you're running mondo 26 to 28 size boots.
If you're riding that Jones Freecarver 9000, you won't need the stiffest carbon bindings since you'll max out edge pressure on the board way before you reach the limit of your interface. The biggest advantage of Flow is the zero Boot Out Factor, so any binding in their lineup will suit you fine.
I also grew up riding out east and I would go night riding at Mont St-Sauveur once I got my driver's license and I've ridden Mont Habitant too! Mont Blanc and Tremblant were my usual spots though. Now I'm spoiled but back then I didn't mind waiting 45 minutes in line to ride 300 vertical feet of ice. I loved it, in fact. I got so much frostbite but I never wanted to go inside and warm up...

Big JJA fan here 😁. But he's only 1.5hrs away. It helps when we you can talk face to face with the builder. Shoutout to Bruce too (got two of his)
HBooter here. Addicted to carving 🤣
@wild-cherry It's cool that we rode the same hills all those years back. It would have been nice to meet at that time. Carving was a rare thing in those days. Ahhh the memories. Thanks for the input, really appreciate it.

Funny to think about that... I was just a kid riding those hills, trying to carve the ice on my Sims Pocket Knife 146.
Most days I would be the only snowboarder on the hill. Maybe you were too? 1986 to 1993. After CEGEP I moved away for university and only rode in Quebec a few days per season on Christmas break.
How old are you? I'll be 50 this year.
I'm just slaying...
@wild-cherry I'll be 70 this summer. Now you understand my slight hesitation and not wanting to rip at 40km's and just come around at a slower pace.
I started right in the Craig Kelly days.(even got his signature while visiting a ski show in Montreal) My first board was a Burton cruise followed by the original Craig Kelly purchased second hand. 4 or 5 years later is when I purchased my first pair of hard boots (they were ugly) and started carving. I remember the true joy of going up the lift and seeing my first pencil arcs with just one board print smack dab in the middle of the transition. I would smile all the way to the top.
On a little different topic. You were spot on with the big manufacturing hype. You suggested I would be happier with a freecarve 9000 instead of a 6000. According to their comments the 9000 would be only for experts wanting to go super fast. The board sounds like it would require a baseball field to come around with a lot of speed otherwise it would track downhill. That's all I had to go with. This is listening to a chairlift interview will Mr. Jones himself.
Anyway... I would sure love to re-live that bliss once more even if it only for another year or 2.
Cheers!
Laurent
@wild-cherry One more thing... Next season I will surely send you a video and I can get some of your expert advice to improve my style.
Newest addition to the family (ASM159 TCX164) the young one has a very special stick, can you guess which one? 😀 He's 8, first sbx race, competing against 9-10yo. Yes, the board is taller than him 😆

Even just a turn or two... Such bliss!

So did I! He shook my hand and signed my hat!

That's just hype. Don't be afraid of the Freecarver 9000, that's not a big board for an experienced carver.
