wide boards (Again)
I Fully understand having a wider board to prevent boot out but other than boot out, are there any benefits to a wider board? I am a size 8.5 us and because of my higher stance angles have no boot out issues with my board's 260 cm waist.
Would there be added benefits if I were to ride a 280 cm or more board? I am actually considering getting a JJ model but am worried the big increase in with would be difficult to handle? What am I missing?
One last thing... What are the specs of the new C3 that you were talking about for lighter riders?
Thank,
@flyguy No, no benefit of wider boards besides boot out prevention.
Remember though that when you're carving hard on steeps a hair of underhang is not enough. The board penetrates the surface and boots will drag even with some underhang, especially on soft snow or chopped snow.
I'm also in 8.5 boots, and they're Insanos which I understand have one of the shortest boot sole length for the size. Even when the surface is firm the 292 waist on the C4 is about right for me. I can't carve a 260 waist the way I want to, with a lot of board angulation. What I'm saying is that the 260 might be fine for your current board and skill level but it wouldn't be enough on a JJA C3 once your skills are equal to the board, even on firm surface. 260mm waist is about right for @martina-c in her mondo 23 boots.
Also, the steeper the stance angles you use the less versatility and comfort you have. If you like steep angles and it works for you, try the Canted Risers for added power and leverage, and a more comfortable stance. (These are shipping now, message me if you want a set before they get uploaded to the store.) The steeper the angles, the more some heel and toe lift become necessary. Some extra clearance over that 260mm waist will probably be good too.
A little boot drag is expected and acceptable in most cases. It becomes problematic for me as I'm trying to extend the 360 carve past the 540 and 720 mark. I need to maintain all my speed and every bit of extra snow displaced costs me a few degrees at the end.
Jasey wants to call the C3 "The C4 162" and I'm good with that. It's 162cm long, 286mm waist, 11m average sidecut.

Thanks for clearing that out for me. I used to ride hard boots and I am having difficulty getting my pelvis facing forward at lower angles. I ride 48/36 and that feels comfortable and helps me facing forward. I know its not as versatile but I'm on a very small mountain and we never get powder or moguls for that matter. (Mont Habitant in Saint-Sauveur). All I do is carve (or try to) and I'm already 70 years old. The specs on the C3 or C4 162 sound pretty sweet to me. After losing a lot of weight this summer to be able to snowboard again I now only weight 140 lbs at 5'9".
The canted risers sound interesting especially for my rear foot. How do I go about ordering them? How much do they cost?

I can do $300 shipped to Quebec if you pay by e-transfer. I can send a single canted riser for your back foot and pair it with a flat Butterfly Wing BX riser for the front, but I recommend using two Canted Risers. The front toe lift is really nice, especially in your very steep stance.
Email me at [email protected] to sort out the details.
