Hard boot snowboards – who makes them?
A whole lot of companies that snowboarders new to the carving world may never have heard of!
An incomplete alphabetical list
BOARDS
Alloy
BC Stream
Black Pearl
The Schoch brothers are Swiss Olympic medallists in Parallel GS snowboard.
Coda
Custom builder of carving snowboards, skwals, carving monoskis, and skis. Whatever carving misfit you are on snow Coda probably have something for you.
Coiler
Bruce Varsava is a Canadian ex FIS racer whose boards have gone worldwide. Bruce is scaling back his build program to “hobby” level, and you are unlikely to get on his build list unless you have been a previous customer. Coiler’s Contra design concept boards are designed for ease of carving on variable snow, and are the pinnacle of Bruce’s art as a builder. (I own 4 Coiler boards, 2 retired, and a 2017 Nirvana & 2023 Contra still in use.)
Donek
Sean Martin runs his company out of Colorado, and brings an engineer’s and carving snowboarder’s sensibility to his designs. He has some brilliant stock boards, his Madd Killer harks back to the famous Madd snowboards of the 90’s, but he’ll custom build you the board of your dreams, even if you’re Ryan knapton’s bigger footed brother.
Exegi
Custom built snow gear for 25 years
F2
A big manufacturer, they’ve been in this game a long time, building freecarver boards, boardercross, and now their race boards are enjoying a resurgence at World Cup level.

Japanese board maker making carving boards in their range.
Jasey-Jay Anderson
Perennial Canadian Olympian, Parallel GS Gold Medallist at Vancouver, and multiple GS World Cup wins and podiums, now turned board maker. Minimalist website, just contact details and get a snowboard legends input into your next board.
Kessler
Kessler pioneered Titanal in race snowboards and their boards have won so many races at all levels up to World Cup & Olympics over the last 20 years. Their Alpine 168 is a race bred freecarve board. Kessler build custom boards for World Cup racers and weekend warriors alike. (I own a Kessler KST 162 slalom race board from 2012)

Japanese company with both powder and carving boards in their lineup.

Austrian Sigi Grabner is a multiple Olympian turned snowboard builder and promoter. Sigi is a beautiful rider just to watch in full flight. SG boards were under the feet of Ester Ledecka in her 2018 & 2022 Parallel GS Olympic Gold medal winning events. SG also makes a range of recreational level carving boards.
Soul
Corran Addison, a South African world champion in white water canoeing, was the founder of Riot Snowboards in the 90’s, and Riot Velocity and Supercarver boards were sought after in their time (I still ride mine). Corran has come back to making white water canoes and snowboards and his credentials are impeccable.
Stranda
A Swedish company known for their carving softboot boards.
Swoard
The board of the original popularisers of Extreme Carving.
Thirst
Mark Miller builds custom snowboards in Idaho. His original boards which earned him a significant following in the Nth American hard booter community were Titanal-free, but Mark is starting to build his SuperConductor freecarve board in a Titanal variant. (I own a non-Titanal Superconductor)
Virus
Custom built in Switzerland from exotic materials, and known for their lethal model names, people have been catching Viruses long before Covid appeared. Benjamin Karl has just won the 2023-2024 FIS World Cup season Crystal Globe for Parallel GS on a Virus race board.
Winterstick
Recently returned to making custom alpine boards which experienced North American hardbooters are enthusiastic about.
Yonex
A Japanese company known for a range of sporting equipment, they have carving snowboards in their range.
Trench Board Company were to launch at Montucky Clear Cut 2024 but the event was cancelled for lack of snow. Can’t find their website yet but the guys behind it are long time carvers!
