Knowing that we'll be riding Revelstoke together next season @damir, I would suggest the mid.  Even if it's a little much at the start of the season it will be perfect by the end of your trip for sure!

Thanks so much @wild-cherry ! I'll take the mid with EGS.

I might have to make some extra shark fins so we can all look equally ridiculous...

Hahahaha, that would be awesome! Can't wait to meet you all next season!

... ok, I was patience to read all the comments and I watched the into-video and I have a clear impression of the C4. I am 172 cm in height, 74 kg, mondo 25,5 cm and I am an advanced to expert rider, and I am looking forward to the next season with a C4 😀 . I actually rinding a Kanpton twin (156) and a SG Soul (159), not the XT, hence I rarely ride the Soul because the board is too narrow. When I ordered the Knapton, Sean only let me order 28.6 waist width (10 m Sidecut) although I wanted it at least 1 cm wider. In general I am very happy with the board but only because it is wider than all my other boards and I am not afraid of BO.

Thinking of the C4 I will get the width I want and the effective edge length of the Soul, or al little bit more, both I ready appreciate. Stance width will be 50 cm for my short legs, EGS is set, but I wonder which stiffness (mid or soft). The reason is, I want speed control in steep terrain by doing tight turns (10 m Sidecut Radius). This means for me, when I am in the 90-180° section (I know patience and locked in) I want the extra bend/flex to slow it down by tightening the turn in dangerous situations. This is something that needs experience to not go over the board, but helps when someone is crossing your line.

According to the video of @slayermtb I was sure I go for the soft, but I guess I should think about the mid. In general I ride on hard to icy conditions (Austrian Alps) behause I go very early in the morning to avoid to many people.

My first choice: C4, soft, EGS !?

.. and thank you for all your comments above!

@vospegmx-at hard decision for you. Based on the discussions on this thread I'd say the soft will be more versatile under your feet. But, given you weight, riding level (advanced to expert) and conditions (icy conditions, not crowded) I'd say the medium will be really good. To tighten the turn in certain situations, you'll have to use more energy. The expert riders here will give you more accurate observations.

Hey @vospegmx-at.  You could definitely do either flex but I'm inclined to push you toward the mid, mostly because you mentioned focusing on steep terrain.  I find I have to work harder to control my speed on steeps with the soft because it won't handle as much edge pressure as the mid so I have to push it to turn tight enough so that I don't end up with too much speed.  On the mid I have more flexibility in turn shape because I can stretch out my turns and still hold the edge without chatter at higher speeds.  On the soft I have to keep it turning as tight as possible because the maximum speed is lower.  So it's kind of more work and less relaxed with more turns per run.  I suspect at the expert level you might get bored of the soft flex pretty quickly and find yourself craving more speed and bigger turns.

Having said that, some factors do point toward the soft flex: you're relatively short with small feet so you'll have to work harder to generate leverage over the edges, and that tight stance will also make it harder to generate leverage over the nose and tail.  Also you mentioned riding icy conditions quite often and while both are grippy on ice, the soft will be slower thereby lowering the risk and the consequences of a mistake.

At 74kg you're right on the line between soft and mid.  @slayermtb is about 80kg and also an expert carver and he went for the mid.  I put a 68kg rider on the mid flex this winter and he liked it better than the two softer boards he tried, though we were riding low density snow (slower) and he didn't try the soft C4.

You'll be very happy with the performance of either board, really it comes down to a question of how fast you want to ride.  Neither one is super fast, but both are faster than your Donek for sure, meaning they will both hold more speed and edge pressure.  Without knowing the stiffness of the Donek it's impossible to say which has the lower minimum speed for initiation.  The C4 is confidence inspiring and will do a lot of the work for you, meaning that you won't have to struggle so hard to avoid chatter.  It's smooth and slow, you won't have a hard time controlling it.  Don't be afraid of the mid flex.

Tough call, neither choice is the wrong one.  EGS for sure.

@wild-cherry ... thank you for the detailed description of doing a turn on soft of mid C4. It made me thinking of how I want the turn und as a consequence it prolongates the winter in my mind 🤣. Finally I take the little smack and go for the mid. I am sure, I will prefer the higher edge pressure at higher speed because chatter is what I avoid and I will have more confidence when the speed increases.

vospe: C4, mir, +EGS

So where are we at? Has everyone locked in their selections? When does production start?

I'm still waiting on two more.  I thought we were done today but as I was completing my spreadsheet I noticed some blank cells.

Production has already started though.  Cores are being assembled, topsheets are being printed and materials are being collected.  Be patient, 30 boards is about three months' work.  You'll definitely have it for opening day!

Good chance, yes.  It's not up to me, I would sign a contract for 300 of these in a heartbeat...

@wild-cherry Hi James, I was wondering if there is still a chance to book a c4 before the snow season?

@steven-cao I think yes.  I expect another 20 but JJA is not committed yet, he wants the first 30 built and out the door first.

I'm staring a "priority list" because the official waitlist is getting quite long.  You're on it @steven-cao, you too @bitoshi and @board-doctor, @carverarcalis, and @michael.  You'll get about two days' notice before we mail out to the main list.

Any other carversconnection members who want to be on the priority list, post here.
