It's not that simple, there's no direct ratio between boot size and waist width.  It will vary depending on snow conditions, binding, binding angles, riding style, steepness of terrain and sidecut radius...

I think 293 is a good width for carving in my size 9s with Flow NX2 Carbon bindings on the very steep but semi-soft corduroy we have in Revelstoke.  I prefer 300mm waists with my bigger sidecut boards but 293 is a good width for most intermediate and advanced carvers.  Not outrageously wide but wider than any production carving board.

I have an JJSB ASM 159 at 285 waist, it's the minimum with 10.5 boots at 15 deg back angle. So for my size, anything 29 up is a GO

James, could you elaborate a bit how these compare to Coiler Contras?

Not done prototyping yet but I can tell you these will be faster and leave a thinner track.  Hopefully also just as forgiving and easy on the body.

Hey Xargo, so happy to see you here!

Hey James,

If you're riding 293 with 9 size foot, what would you recommend me for 13 size... (30 mondo)? Does such a beast even exist?

@smoothness

Interested in this myself. Size 13 boot. Been riding 30/15 with a ride warpig 269mm ww. Just got into wide boards in the last year or so, what a game changer.

Big feet...  Donek and Exegi snowboards are the only manufacturers who make boards wider than 300mm in the waist.  In my opinion, Exegi makes the better board.  These JJAs are better than both but only about 293 in the waist.  I've seen guys with size 13 carving deeply and happily in this width but they're unable to angulate as far as I like to, and they have to keep their knees bent.  So width depends a lot on riding style.  @Hard_Slarve seems fine with his 269 War Pig but I wouldn't be happy with such a narrow board myself in size 9 boots, for example.

I'm gonna post a review of an Exegi Double Wide vs Donek Sabre SRT right now.

Interesting plate design.

I like the plate idea, but I don't see the hinge system in the video. Does it use an allfex insert or is it something new specific made for softbooter? If there's a demo day before the pre-order, I'd love to check it out.

@wild-cherry what is it about the jasey jay board that makes them faster than the contras?

Sure!  No problem.

The short answer is that they displace less snow in the track.

I noticed today how easy the second proto is to balance without touching the snow.  I'm working on hands-behind-the-back carving now, hands-in-pockets was too easy on these...

I also put a client on the second proto this afternoon, he had been riding my softer 12m Contra all week and he preferred the Jasey-Jay!  I was surprised because the proto is quite stiff and he's a lightweight intermediate carver, but this is our target market and so it was very encouraging to get his feedback.  He wants to ride it again tomorrow so I'm left with the Coiler!

demo day before the pre-order

If you can make it Revelstoke before the end of season you can definitely demo a prototype!

Correction: Swoard out of Switzerland also make titanal carving-specific boards, including the Stoke and Dual/Dual2 for softboot carving.

I have the Stoke myself!

How do these compare to the Donek Knapton Twin? I have a 157 with 8.7m sidecut, 28.6cm waist. Just from the specs you mentioned the "working title" should be faster and trench deeper, but I'm curious how the construction /flex would compare as my Donek is quite stiff and heavy.
