Wide boots for solid carving
I got the Lasso Pro Wide home yesterday evening, so I'm standing in them right now, and they're definitely on the softer side in terms of flex.
I did a quick shell fit on both Lasso Pro Wide and Dialogue Wide and they are both noticeably wider than the Ions that in turn are wider than the Photons.
The Intuition liner in the Rides are really nice though. They're plush like a knitted sock. It also feels like the Ride boots are actually canted, which is quite nice.
40 min in now I get a very light tingling sensation in my toes on the left foot. But that might be because I've got the boas tightened a lot to reduce heel lift and to increase stiffness so that may be why. Releasing the boas now and wiggling the toes reduced the tingling immediately. If I do that in the lift queue I'll have no problems with these boots at all. No tingling in my right foot at all, which is amazing.
Only did a barefoot fit in the Dialogues yesterday evening with the liner in and it felt like they were slightly pointer on the inside, which doesn't work with my feet because my pinkies are not that much further back than my big toe. I'm gonna try them on after lunch probably to see how they fit.
As always, the Sidas insoles make a huge difference. I may end up buying a second pair so I don't have to swap them between my ski and snowboard boots. It may be worth it. I think I'll also go to my local ski shop for some straps because the boas don't really tighten the top of the tongue very well without having to really cinch down on the upper boa...
Right, and the Salomons felt even softer than the Rides last night
Some more updates to share learnings for us with wide feet...
My toes got a bit numb after wearing the Lasso Pros for 2 hours. But they recovered quickly when I removed them so I'm not that worried. Wearing them now again after the Salomons just to verify the fit.
The Salomons felt wider initially on my feet, but my toes started numbing after 5-10 minutes already, 20 minutes it was noticeable even on my less wide right foot, so I removed them after 30 minutes. This matches with the shell fit where they felt just a tiny bit less wide. They are also noticeably stiffer than the Lasso Pros, around the same stiffness as Burton Ion I'd guess. In general, they have a harder and stiffer feel to them compared to the very plush feeling Lasso Pros. So if anyone finds the Ions just slightly too narrow I can recommend trying these.
Neither of these boots have a super locked in heel, but that's solvable by buying some foam C- or J-bars to put on the outside of the liners.
A funky thing about Lasso Pro is that it is dual boa, but the outer boa dial is for the inside harness and the front one is for the entire lacing, so a single lacing zone, which is probably why I had a gut feeling about needing straps. Then I can cinch down the top part without affecting the width over the forefoot.
About the shell fit mentioned in my previous post. In both Dialogue and Lasso Pro I have extra room side to side when doing a shell fit, approximately 3-5 mm or so, compared to the <1mm in the Burton Ions. And slightly more in the Lasso Pros compared to the Dialogue.
Did you size up for the Ride Lasso Pros'?
I tried on the size 7 and the fit perfectly
even though my measurements foot are 251 and 256.

@kagurasnowsurfer I did size up a bit yes, all the way to the US 8.5/mondo 26,5. I had to do a stab in the dark in terms of sizing and I went off of sizing in Burton and Vans length wise. And I just absolutely cannot do too small boots, my feet hurt in most soft running shoes. If I had a local store I would definitely have wanted to try the US 8/mondo 26 and to be honest I probably would have gone with that size, I personally definitely could not do the US 7/mondo 25.
If they pack out and become too long I may just end up buying a pair of thick stiff intuition liners which will make the boots some good anyway.

@superfelix Thank you for your detailed reply. I am going to try on the Lasso Pro Wide in 7 again and maybe even try 7.5 at at the shop in Tokyo. I think the 7's were fine but I want to double check. BTW if you have issues with soft running shoes I suggest Hoka. They have models in both EE and EEEE. They run even wider than New Balance. I have the Bondi's which are almost too comfy but I work on my feet all day and the extra cushioning is a blessing.

@kagurasnowsurfer I’m gonna try with my ski boot liners tomorrow. I don’t know why I didn’t think of that earlier… I took my insoles out of them… 🤦♂️ the tongue is of course noticeably stiffer in those than in the Intuition Dreamliners that come with the Lasso Pro. But the wrap Velcro fit of the Dreamliners actually makes it possible to make use of the stiffness that’s there compared to the ski boot liners where the shell has to close up the liner. So when I did a quick compare just now the difference was not that big at all
For running shoes my go-to is Altra at the moment. It feels like they’re the only ones making wide and relatively thin soled running shoes now. I really don’t like the current trend of super cushioned shoes.
@kagurasnowsurfer My ski boot liners actually didn't work very well. They've got slippier fabric on the inside so I got more heel lift, they're also narrower and shorter so it wasn't a good fit in my snowboard boot shells. They also weren't that much stiffer due to not being able to securely lock them around my shins like I can with the wrap liner that comes with the Lasso Pros, I'm sure if they had lacing or something it would be better.
I'm going to stop obsessing about this now I think. Ideally I would have liked to try the Thirty Two TM-2 Wides but eh, what can ya do, I need boots for my trip in 1,5 weeks and like I said before, I'll go with a thick and stiff intuition liner if these pack out too much just to get a bit more out of them and then find a new boot in a few years if that doesn't completely solve it.
The straps I ordered are currently stuck in customs but I'm sure I'll be able to create my own dual zone with those.
@superfelix I tried on the 7.5 at a Tokyo shop and they felt too big. They no longer had size 7 (That size was really difficult to find). I found a new pair at an auction site that were last year's model...25% less than the retail price was a nice bonus. So, I took a chance and ordered the size 7 online. They arrived today and I have worn them for an hour with no big issues. Thank you for your suggestions.

I came across this thread that might be helpful for those with numbing pain:
I’m not sure if cutting out 5he liner is a great idea, but if it is a serious problem, it might be worth trying on an old pair.
I’ve tried to build up the areas beside the instep, but it just seemed to add more pressure in that area.
I’m definitely sensitive to pressure points over the instep. I could feel tha cables in the DC Transcend once they started to break in. For this year I’ve pulled the inner harness out of the Ride Insano and will just use the intuition lacing that is higher up.
I think too many people wear boots that are too big… they complain about heel hold, then manufacturers go to way too much effort to hold the heel down and just cause more problems. Though oddly I did like the Thraxis inner boa as it had a plastic plate and I could adjust it and pressure as necessary.

@kagurasnowsurfer I have wide side 12US feet - my latest boots are the most comfortable and stiffest I’ve ever ridden with. I would highly recommend the K2 Thraxis with its 3-BOA system and Intuition inner boot.
Thank you, Rocketman! I tried the K2 Traxis. Loved the triple BOA but they just were not wide enough for my size 7 EEE. I ended up buying Ride Lasso Pro Wide.Posted by: @rocketman69@kagurasnowsurfer I have wide side 12US feet - my latest boots are the most comfortable and stiffest I’ve ever ridden with. @kagurasnowsurfer thank you !! I’ll keep those in mind when my bunions get worse - lol 😎
First day in my Lasso Pro Wides. No carving due to copious amounts of powder the last few days in northern Japan. But I had a chance to break in these boots a little. The Lasso Pro Wide boots were softer than would prefer but they were super comfy. I still popped the BOA's after each run but I could feel the extra room in these boots. I kept the insoles that came with the boots and was really happy with the arch support (almost better than the aftermarket models I have used in the past). Intuition wrap liner was plush and supportive. I have ordered some Trench straps and boot stiffeners which should help in the response department and look forward to getting out on some corduroy. I truly believe that the Lasso Pro Wides are the solution for those of us plagued with really wide feet.
